Riley B. King was born on a plantation in Itta Bena, Mississippi in 1926. He bought his first guitar for $15.00 when he was 12. He has played over 15,000 shows in a 52 year career. He is rumored to have fathered 15 children. He also knows how to fly an airplane and used to fly to his own shows until his insurance company told him it probably wasn’t a good idea.

It turns out there’s more to Bill Withers than just “Lean on Me” and “Ain’t No Sunshine.” I recently picked up two of his albums, Just As I Am (1971) and Still Bill (1972), and I’m really enjoying them both. It’s the perfect cure for reggaeton overexposure–something I’ve been suffering from quite often as of late. I picked out some goodies from the two albums:
